Robert Peel International – Training Films for Middle Eastern Police Officers

Robert Peel International are a global provider of training for security and policing, specialising in areas such as conflict stabilisation and capacity building. At the beginning of 2016 we were commissioned by the company to produce a series of training videos to educate police forces in a notorious area of conflict and instability within the Middle East. Due to the dangers involved with sending staff to the region to provide in-person training and support, the use of digitally distributed videos enabled officers on the ground to receive world-class training to help them protect and serve local communities who are being affected by political unrest.

Over the course of three months we produced 22 films, each 15-20 minutes in length, which covered core policing methods, first aid, and specialist topics such as the identification of IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) and discarded munitions, all based on standard British policing principals, so that police officers in the region can keep civilians safe.

Despite being filmed and edited in the UK, it was essential that all of the videos were produced in Arabic so that our intended audience would understand the information being presented to them. Working with a team of Arabic translators and interpreters, we were able to put together a workflow that enabled our English-speaking production team to accurately produce all of the films in Arabic while still being able to review the content of the end product with our also-English-speaking clients; a technique that we can now utilise with other UK based customers looking to have their films translated into different languages.
