International Women’s Day 2025 – #AccelerateAction
This year’s International Women’s Day theme, #AccelerateAction serves as a stark reminder that change just isn’t happening fast enough. No surprises there, right? According to the World Economic Forum, at the current rate it could take until 2158 to reach gender parity. That statistic isn’t just shocking, it’s unacceptable.
International Women’s Day may just be one day of the year but it’s an important reminder for all of us to continue to raise awareness, challenge inequality, and push for meaningful progress across all industries, each and every day.
Small Steps Can Lead to Big Changes
Increased momentum and urgency is needed in addressing the barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres. It’s a huge issue, and at times, it can feel incredibly overwhelming and unobtainable. But as with any process of change, we can all make a difference by focusing on taking small, everyday actions. Whether it’s calling out stereotypes, challenging discrimination, questioning bias, or just simply celebrating women’s successes.
So what do we do at Southpoint Films to try and make a difference? We remain committed to treating our team equally, regardless of gender. That applies to everything including pay, opportunities, training, rights, working conditions and flexible working where possible. But how can we all do more collectively to accelerate action within the creative industry as a whole?
Encouraging More Women into Creative Industries
One of the key challenges the creative industry faces is ensuring more women consider careers in the sector. So, how can we break down barriers and show that the creative industry truly welcomes female talent?
How about encouraging employers to recruit, retain, and develop diverse talent, particularly in leadership and decision making roles? We could start having conversations about how we can best provide workplace environments that meet the specific needs of women and girls. And we could actively promote and celebrate the creative and artistic talent of women whenever we can. This of course should be the norm across the board, but unfortunately we all constantly hear stories from peers that prove otherwise.
Can we really afford to wait more than a century for equality? Progress could be so much faster if we all took action, no matter how small. By working together, we can accelerate action and work towards creating a future where opportunities are truly equal.
Let’s strike the #AccelerateAction pose and get the conversation going!
