NaSTA Awards 2025 – Celebrating Student TV Talent

We attended and sponsored the National Student Television Association (NaSTA)’s annual industry conference and awards ceremony at Southampton Solent University. This year, the event was hosted by Sonar Events, the university’s student television station.

As the longest-running student TV awards in the UK, NaSTA is a fantastic celebration of the creativity and talent emerging from student television across the country. It’s also entirely student-led, with both the association (a registered charity) and the event itself being run by volunteers who are currently studying or who’ve recently graduated.

The conference kicked off on Saturday morning, offering students the chance to connect with industry professionals through masterclasses and networking sessions. Our Managing Director, Rowan Johnson, delivered an insightful talk in the Jane Austen Lecture Theatre, sharing his journey from Station Manager to Managing Director. He also highlighted the exciting opportunities we offer for students and recent graduates to gain paid experience on the various projects we work on.

The conference was a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with passionate students from across the UK at our exhibition stand. We enjoyed answering questions about careers in video production and encouraged attendees to join our careers mailing list or register as freelancers. It was also a great chance to showcase our outside broadcasting setup, featuring our Canon-based camera system.

In the evening, the focus shifted to the awards ceremony, where the best in student television was celebrated. This year, we were proud to sponsor two categories: Event Coverage and Live Broadcast. Our congratulations to all the nominees and winners!

Overall, it was a fantastic event, and we loved connecting with so many talented and ambitious students. The future of the industry looks bright!
