Portsmouth FC and Portsmouth City Council – Anti Racism Film

In October 2021 Portsmouth City Council and Portsmouth FC came together to launch a campaign called #ProudToBe. Designed to help spread the message during Hate Crime Awareness Week and Black History Month. They commissioned us to produce a short anti-racism film featuring people that reflect the diversity of the Portsmouth FC staff and supporters.

Pompey fan Majid Dhana wrote an emotive poem called ‘Illuminated Voices’ which is the heart and soul of the film. The poem is read aloud by Portsmouth FC’s players and manager, as well as several fans. We filmed each reading at an iconic location around the city. Locations included the Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth FC training ground and Southsea Castle. Hopefully you’ll recognise a few of the them!

We created the short film using a straightforward and minimal technical set up. We added atmospheric background music in the edit suite that helps to keep the focus on the people and the message.  Because of its simplicity, we believe this film makes a real impact!

Following our work, this short film was broadcast pre-match at Fratton Park Stadium, on the Portsmouth Big Screen, and at other venues across the city.

We’re incredibly proud of this video and what it stands for. We hope it makes a difference in changing perceptions in the Pompey community.
